Thanks for visiting!
We hope you can find everything you need. RONIN DOJO is focused on providing high-quality service and customer satisfaction - we will do everything we can to meet your expectations.
Ronin Dojo is focused primarily on Isshin-Ryu karate. Isshin-ryu karate was founded by Master Tatsuo Shimabuku. Master Shimabuku was born in the early 1900's and studied several different martial arts styles. He was the only person to ever master several different martial arts styles. Master Shimabuku developed Isshin-ryu karate by taking the best of each style. Therefore, Isshin-ryu karate is derived from Shuri-te, Shroin-ryu, and Goju-ryu karate. Master Shimabuku began teaching American Marines his style of martial arts in exchange for military conscription. The most notable men who brought Isshin-ryu karate to America were Harold Long and Don Nagle. Master Shimabuku passed away in 1998 but his karate style and legacy continue on today.
Ronin Dojo is run by Renshi Jenn Jordan, 4th degree black belt. She trained under Shihan J.H. Kim, a ninth degree black belt in Isshin-Ryu karate and sixth degree balck belt in Tae Kwon Do, who was the coach of the United States Women's karate team during the 1980's. Sensei Jordan has been studying martial arts since she was 9 years old. She began competing at an early age in state, regional, and national competitions. After completing her education, Sensei Jordan returned to competitive karate at the age of 27. She has competed in several karate tournaments over the past few years while working full-time as a physician assistant. Since returning to competitive karate in 2004, Sensei Jordan has won State, Regional, and National karate titles in both kata, kobudo (weapons), and kumite. She has competed against national and international karate champions and has had the opportunity and privilege to train with world class karate champions including two-time world champion Sensei George Kotaka, two-time World Champion Elisa Au-Fonseca, World Champion Sensei Eimi Kurita, and Sensei Maile Chinen. Sensei Jordan has had years of experience teaching karate to all age and skill levels.
Ronin Dojo, led by head instructor Sensei Jenn Jordan, hopes to pass along the legacy of Master Shimabuku. Classes are designed to work with people of all age, fitness, and skill levels. Along with all the competitive karate experience, Sensei Jordan is a certified athletic trainer and physician assistant and understands and implements current exercise physiology principles into training. Therefore, classes are structured to safely accommodate people of all fitness levels with medical conditions taken into consideration. Our goal is for people to safely learn Isshin-ryu karate and self defense while getting into shape and having fun. People are always surprised to learn that they can do it!!!
Presently, we are offering classes to teenagers and adults. We hope to expand our schedule to include children. Once we have gained enough interest, we will offer children's classes. Children as young as the age of four can start benefiting from taking any martial art as it teaches respect, self-discipline. motivation, improve self confidence and self-esteem.
